The scars
on your
face may
not go
away
completely
but new
technologies in the
fields of dermatology
and plastic surgery
have made it possible
to reduce the severity
of these scars.
Scars can be
categorised as acne,
burn, injury and
traumatic scars. Acne
scars can be healed by
micro-dermabrasion,
microneedling,
chemical peels
and fillers. Microdermabrasion
is a
painless treatment
that exfoliates
dead cells from
the epidermis, first
layer of the skin.
Microneedling,
on the other hand,
is a therapeutic

treatment for acne
scars. "You can see
about 50 to 60 per
cent improvement in
the scars after six to
eight sittings. Prices
for these treatments
start from Rs 3,500
per sitting," explains
renowned plastic
surgeon and head of
Enhance Aesthetic
and Cosmetic Studio,
Dr Manoj Khanna.
"The treatment
and price depends
on the type and size
of the scar," says
Dr Kiran Lohia,
dermatologist and
founder of Cosmedic.
Traumatic scars
(burns, injuries and
accidents) can be
treated with silicon
gel bandage, which
binds the wound.
However, surgical scar
revision is the most
effective treatment
option as it can
decrease the size of
the scar substantially.
"All treatments
can be safely
performed for the
clients above the
age of 12," says Dr
Khanna. However, he
cautions that these
treatments should
not be performed on
active injuries and
you should wait for at
least four to six weeks.
Also, you need to take
some precautions
post treatment and
the most important is
defending your skin
from UV rays. Apply
a layer of sunscreen
as a shield against
harsh rays. Feeding
your skin with ample
amount of moisturiser
is also important.
Also, use shower gel
for bathing instead of
soap as it has seven to
11 PH level whereas
our skin has between
four and five.
The treatments
need to be taken only
under the supervision
and prescription
of certified
dermatologists.
