Ho'oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian practice of receiving and giving forgiveness and love, is a simple and effective tool to avoid emotional toxins in our daily lives. Ho'oponopono heals by establishing harmony and peace between subconscious, Conscious and super-conscious mind. |

What if you were told that four simple sentences – 'I love you. I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you' – were capable of curing all your physical, psychological, financial, and social ills? Will you laugh at its absurdity? Whatever your reaction, the fact is that every brilliant idea is always very simple. |

A modern version of an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness, this is an extremely powerful self-transformation technique that corrects, restores, maintains good health and harmonises relationships. This magical formula came to limelight about three decades ago when the word went out about miraculous healing in a highsecurity hospital ward in Hawaii for mentally ill criminals. The astonishing bit was that Dr Ilhaleakala Hew Len, the psychiatrist-incharge, didn't visit the ward even once. He just sat in his office looking at the patients' files as they continued to improve and recover. On being questioned by an investigating team, he revealed the practice of Ho'oponopono, which literally means, 'to make right' or 'to rectify an error' and is based upon following principles: |
Oneness: Though we feel separate from each other we are all inter-connected. |
Cause and effect: We sow what we reap. The mirror: Our world is our mirror; it reflects our inner state. |
Memories create problems: Our problems are mainly the consequences of various memories replaying in our subconscious mind. |
Opportunity: Every problem is an opportunity to heal ourselves at a deeper level. |
Total responsibility: Everything that happens in our life is our responsibility. Ho'oponopono establishes harmony and peace between subconscious, conscious and super-conscious mind. It involves repentance (I'm sorry), forgiveness (please forgive me), and transmutation through love and gratitude (Thank you. I love you). All you have to do is chant four sentences. That's all. |
I love you: If I wish to improve my life, I must love everything in it, as the spirit of love heals within us whatever is creating our outer circumstances.'I love you' transmutes our energy from 'stuck' to 'flowing'. |
I am sorry: By saying sorry, we remove the sting from our toxic memories. |
Please forgive me: A logical extension of feeling sorry. |
Thank you: It is about showing our gratitude to existence and showing faith that our issue is being resolved for our highest good. |
When to use it? When you encounter unpleasantness, someone or something hurts you, you're in pain or illness, you sense something negative, you wish to improve a relationship, want to solve a problem, wish to heal someone, or wish to change the world. |
How to use it? While paying attention to your problem, simply chant the four magic sentences and mean what you say. The painful memories causing your problem will be neutralised and released automatically. Refrain from analysing either your problem or the working of Ho'oponopono else your intellect may create obstacles in the healing process. |
Remember that while intellect is a great manager of problems, managing problems is not the same as solving them, and certainly not the same as letting them go. • |
